Re: The hate is strong for VW
My uncle just bought a mid-2000s (2005?) Jetta TDI, before the scandal broke. I'm wondering what Colorado will make him and other owners do for this "non-upgradable" class of VW diesel. My 2¢: US states should let it go. Now the states are very concerned, very righteous, but where were the...

Re: The hate is strong for VW
My mom took the diesel emissions thing personally. She was genuinely, emotionally angry, hurt even. She had a TDI Sportwagen I've mentioned here before. To me, a response like hers was a gross overreaction. It's like getting angry at a computer. She dumped the Sportwagen and got a 2016 CC, which I'v...

Re: 2013 VW Sportwagen TDI Driving Impressions
I think the road noise goes up faster with tire wear than say Volvos. I was in that Sportwagen a few months ago, before my mom got rid of it for a new CC, and the noise was up substantially, like you mention.

The emissions scandal which dogged the German company last year has propelled it into seventh place globally (fourth in the UK) on the list – behind Shell, Monsanto and the World Bank.

Beetle Dune
It's a new trim level, with a half-inch ride height increase, and absolutely, positively no ability to travel over dunes.

Volkswagens are hot in Mexico
NO - Not hot as in 'stolen'. Hot as in 'Caliente!' and 'selling like hotcakes'. The thing is, apparently the market for new cars is so strong down in Mexico, that Volkswagen can count this as one of the places that has an uptick in sales. This bucks the overall trend that Volkswagen is seeing aroun...

Re: Tiguan vs. BMW M5 street crash
Agreed. Today, more than half of new cars sold of every size can do a good job of keeping you out of the hospital or morgue after an accident. S80s are extremely safe, but not just that, they were extremely safe starting in 1998 (1999 model year). Same with 850s and all other Volvos. My 850's doors ...

Tiguan vs. BMW M5 street crash
Last night I had the displeasure of watching a Tiguan (recent/new) hit a ~2004ish BMW M5 broadside at around 35mph. http://alltrackworld.com/images/IMG_6504.jpg http://alltrackworld.com/images/IMG_6510.jpg The BMW crept out into a break in northbound traffic, and blindly, made a break across the sou...
